Fence off slope

I refer to the letter by Vivienne Brown headlined 'Revolting eyesore scarring hillside' (South China Morning Post, July 13), regarding graffiti painted on a slope along Tai Tam Road.

The Environmental Protection Department confirmed the presence of the graffiti during a site inspection on July 17. We informed the Water Supplies Department which is responsible for the hillside so a clean-up could be arranged and suggested fencing off the slope.

Ms Brown asked if the graffiti had anything to do with Hong Kong International School.

We met with the school's acting head and the director of community and resource development who agreed that the graffiti detracted from the beautiful environment and that the practice of painting graffiti should be discouraged.
