It's time for a change at Yau Tong MTR station

Felix Chan

Yau Tong MTR station, the new interchange between the Kwun Tong Line and the Tseung Kwan O Line for cross-harbour journeys, began operations yesterday.

Passengers heading from the Island Line to the Kwun Tong line via the Eastern Harbour Crossing now have to change trains at Yau Tong station.

Some commuters complained that drivers had mistakenly announced the station as Po Lam, and that the train doors did not line up properly with the sliding doors on the platform.

However, the MTRC, which estimates that the change will add four minutes to the journey for cross-harbour commuters on the Kwun Tong line, said it was satisfied with yesterday's launch.

A $2 discount has been offered for this month to adult Octopus card users for journeys between Shekkipmei and Lam Tin to stations on Hong Kong Island via the new interchange. The Tseung Kwan O line is scheduled to open on August 18.
