Racing 'god' surrenders his licence

The alleged road racer dubbed the 'God of Racing' was yesterday ordered to surrender his driving licence pending the outcome of his October trial on charges of dangerous driving and speeding.

Part-time film actor Jim Chong-shing, 44, surrendered his licence to Kowloon City Court and bail was set at $10,000 by Magistrate Ernest Lin Kam-hung.

Prosecutors allege that Jim was driving at 198km/h - almost three times the 70km/h limit - on the Kwun Tong-bound carriageway of Lung Cheung Road outside Hollywood Plaza on January 20.

Jim is also accused of dangerous driving on the same day outside Choi Wan Estate on Clear Water Bay Road.

The father-of-three pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing.

Mr Lin yesterday allowed a prosecution application to hear Jim's case with that of 27-year-old Winson Lo Sai-wing, who also denies one charge of speeding and one of dangerous driving.

Lo allegedly committed the offences at the same time and place as Jim.

He was also ordered to surrender his licence yesterday and was granted $10,000 bail.

The trial is scheduled to start on October 7 in the same court.
