KMB offers fare concessions

Kowloon Motor Bus has joined other public transport companies in offering concessions, amid political pressure for fare cuts.

The KMB announced transfer concessions of up to $3.50 for 130 routes, starting next month. While such moves have been welcomed by the Environment, Works and Transport Bureau and some political parties, the KMB concessions have been labelled 'insufficient' and 'disappointing'.

KMB will expand its existing transfer concession to cover a total of 247 routes, or roughly half of the company's network.

Under the scheme, passengers transferring to an air-conditioned bus will automatically save $3.50, while those transferring to non-air-conditioned buses will save $2.70.

KMB is the third transport operator, after the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation and the MTRC, to unveil new concessions since last week.
