Tycoon Joseph Lau Luen-hung has criticised the way in which his 25-year-old girlfriend's pregnancy was revealed as a ploy to make him look silly.

The 51-year-old property businessman (above), whose love life is obsessed over by some sections of the press, said news that former beauty queen Yvonne Lui Lai-kwan was pregnant was broken by a Chinese magazine on Sunday.

'The magazine faxed the news to many newspapers on Sunday to make sure it would be reported,' Lau told SAR. 'It's a ploy and the aim was to embarrass me.'

But the executive director of Chinese Estates Holdings and former husband of socialite Theresa Po Wing-kam insisted any attempt to upset him had failed. After all, he's going to be the father of a child likely to inherit beauty queen looks.
