Drivers are selfish and inconsiderate

After reading several of your readers' comments regarding car drivers in Hong Kong, I have felt compelled to write and express my dismay and frustration regarding general road manners.

I have been driving for more than 16 years and have found the majority of Hong Kong drivers to be utterly selfish and inconsiderate.

I am totally appalled at the non-use of indicators, especially on roundabouts, and hogging of the middle and outside lanes on our highways. In the outside lane this is extremely dangerous as it encourages 'inside overtaking' which is both hazardous and illegal, while also holding up the smooth flow of traffic.

The Transport Department should consider re-educating road users through media channels and fining these inconsiderate drivers.

This may also lead to a reduction in tailgating offences which regularly occur when motorists are unwilling to move into the next inside lane and give way to the car behind.
