I am writing to express my bewilderment and anger about the Prefect Training Workshop organised by the Education Department on July 6 at a school hall on Waterloo Road, Kowloon.

I am one of the teachers responsible for the prefect team in my school and I have been looking for practical repertoire to develop the team. However, I was most disappointed and shocked during the first hour of the so-called Prefect Training Workshop.

The title of the workshop was 'Prefect Training' and the aims on the circular were to assist teachers develop students' team-building spirit, co-operation and responsibility. To my astonishment, what I can still remember about the first part of the workshop was all dancing. The ice-breaking game of being forced to dance with a stranger of the opposite sex and encouraging male teachers to look for a female partner for a slow dance in a dim light were all absolutely bizarre. It is totally out of anyone's mind to be able to relate these activities with the skills of prefect training. Furthermore, it is a waste of teachers' precious time when so many urgent and important things have to be dealt with towards the end of the term like completing students' reports, working out the programme of the school closing ceremony, preparing for the admission of new students, just to mention a few.
