Role of president's men

Why are US Vice-President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld beating the war drums, without the UN Weapons Re-Inspection in Iraq? Why is Secretary of State Colin Powell speaking of UN Weapons Inspection and seeking congressional approval, prior to any pre-emptive strikes on Iraq?

Whether perceived or true, the governments in Southeast Asia like Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore make the point that Mr Cheney has a lot of fallout problems from his days as a corporate chief executive, which are currently being investigated in the US.

Mr Rumsfeld, meanwhile, is said to have deep shareholding interests in defence manufacturers and contractor corporations. The more warheads fired, the more he will enrich himself.
