Pong makes most of start switch

Heavy rain and near windless conditions yesterday nearly spoilt day one of the Nautica Autumn Regatta, the opening regatta for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. With racing due to start early yesterday afternoon and the wind still not showing any signs of filling in, race officer Les Charles had little choice but to opt for a Hunghom start where there was a good chance of the fleet finding more breeze. It turned out to be a good call as the rain dissipated, the wind filled in and the fleet enjoyed some very close racing. Frank Pong's Jelik took line honours in the cruiser class IRC division with an elapsed time of 1:12:55 and was second on handicap with the winner on corrected time being Rampage.
