Free from harassment

I refer to Carrie Chan's letter 'Student taunts raise misgivings about merger' (Sunday Morning Post, September 15) about the way students at a certain SAR university choose to welcome freshmen. The decline of morals is a serious problem in Hong Kong. Many university students, particularly males, accept sexual harassment as part of the fun at an orientation camp. However, they do not consider the feelings of others.

As a freshman at Lingnan University, I attended a faculty camp where there was no such activity. University students are meant to be civilised people, being trained to form the backbone of future society. The purpose of orientation is to welcome freshmen, not to harass them.
