Shape up with fitness routine

The World Heart Federation recommends getting into better shape through the following exercises:


Get off the bus or train a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way;


Walk around during the work-day break or at lunch;


Take the stairs instead of a lift;


Schedule exercise into your routine.


The following dietary guidelines are recommended:


Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, at least five to seven servings daily;


Eat grain products, especially whole grains;


Choose low fat and fat-free products;


Use soft margarines, sunflower, corn and olive oils;


Eat more fish, beans and pulses and lean meat;


Avoid foods high in calories like soft drinks, pastries and cakes;


Avoid foods high in animal fats and cholesterol;


Fat on meat and skin from poultry should be removed;


Avoid frying, instead bake, broil, boil, roast and stew
