Teenager Yu Chi-lok's dream of becoming the youngest Hong Kong medallist at an Asian Games has been blown away in Optimist class sailing events in Busan.

Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School student Chi-lok, 13, bravely sailed his boat to fifth place yesterday in the ninth of 11 races to decide the medals.

He had finished between seventh and 11th in each of the previous eight races.

The 10th race was yesterday and the final race of the Optimist class, an event for sailors under the age of 15, will take place today.

Sailing his way to a gold medal yesterday was Japan's Iitsuka Shibuki, with China's Zhu Ye close behind.

At the recent China National Optimist Sailing Championship in Shanwei, Chi-lok won a gold medal in the amateur Grade C category and steered his team to second place overall in the team event.
