The article by Mirjana Jovetic about Spanish National Day ('Fiesta Fantastico', South China Morning Post, October 11) requires clarification.


Christopher Columbus did not discover the United States but, by accident, an entire continent by landing on the island of Guanahani which he called San Salvador and later La Espanola. Today we know it as the Antilles located in the Caribbean.


In fact Columbus never landed in what is now the US.
