New York Philharmonic
In tonight's sell-out show, the New York Philharmonic performs with its new music director, Lorin Maazel, wielding the baton. Succeeding Kurt Masur, Maazel first conducted this orchestra at the age of 12 and has since led more than 150 others. Tonight, star pianist Lang Lang makes a one-night appearance. Love In A Fallen City
The 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre is celebrated with a reworking of Eileen Chang's famous novel of the love affair between Fan Liuyuan and Bai Liusu. Love In A Fallen City is music theatre conceived by artistic director Fredric Mao and Edward Lam. Chung Chi-wing composes the songs and Yuri Ng choreographs one of the most anticipated shows of the New Vision Arts Festival. Performed in Cantonese with Chinese and English surtitles. More than 20 oil-on-canvas paintings offer a comprehensive look at the recent works of Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thanh Binh. Gao Xingjian
The 2000 Nobel Laureate in Literature, Paris-based Gao Xingjian, is also a painter who uses the traditional tools of Chinese ink on paper to present modern, philosophical works that usually touch on the same themes as his literature. Hong Kong Nocturne
From December 31, 1994, to January 1, 2000, David Clarke, an associate professor in the department of fine arts at the University of Hong Kong, took at least one black and white photo each day. These images form a subjective photo-documentary of the years surrounding the Hong Kong handover - the subject of Clarke's latest book Reclaimed Land: Hong Kong In Transition. Sorghum & Sunflowers
Innovative, young Chinese painter Peng Weiheng creates images of dried wheat on vertical planks more than 1.7 metres high. These brightly coloured paintings come in pairs and sets of three. Peng graduated in 1999 with a degree in oil painting from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where he was awarded the most distinguished new artist of the year. Heart Of Hanoi: Dao Hai Phong And Le Thanh Son
Two of Vietnam's top artists display their work.
