Shop pair held over drugging

A private doctor's nurse was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital for observation last night after she alleged she had been drugged while shopping at a medical and dried seafood shop in Mongkok.

Lee Wai-fan, 45, wanted to buy herbal medicine to make soup and employees tried to coax her into buying ginseng and dried abalone slices.

A woman in the shop who she believed was a herbalist offered her a drink. After drinking it, she became dizzy. Other employees gathered around, urging her to purchase the more expensive items.

When Ms Lee said she did not have enough money, they asked her to use her credit card. She became frightened, left her credit card in the shop and ran outside without signing for the purchases.

She reported the incident to police, who later checked her credit card and reportedly discovered $5,000 had been spent.

Shop employees told police the woman had bought a variety of items. She used a credit card to pay for the purchased goods but suddenly ran out of the shop on receiving a call on her mobile phone.

Police later arrested two female shop employees, aged 29 and 42, for alleged deception. They were detained at Mongkok police station for further inquiries.

Meanwhile, police yesterday raided two premises in Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei, believed to be used as 'drug dining rooms' and arrested 23 people, including a woman addict who is seven months pregnant.

More than 130 heroin tablets each worth $200 were seized.

Last night Yau Ma Tei police were still holding the two suspected operators of the drug den.
