Less than one fifth of people surveyed support the proposed $100 fee for emergency services at public hospitals. The poll of 554 people by the Democratic Party showed only 15.5 per cent of people believed $100 or more was reasonable. Thirty-four per cent believed the fee should be set at $44 and 32 per cent felt it should remain free. Another survey carried out last month by a group of patients' associations showed 90 per cent of patients with schizophrenia could not afford to purchase new anti-psychotic medications. The survey was carried out on 467 patients.
