SAR students get top tips from mainland beach volleyball stars

Students who had previously played only indoor volleyball took a crash course in the sand-between-the-toes version from Asia's top beach volleyballers on Monday.

The mainland's Asian Games beach volleyball gold medallists, Wang Fei and Tian Jia, who were in the SAR for a tournament last weekend, shared tips with 30 students from seven secondary schools in a clinic held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Sai Kung.

'The best thing for the students was to feel the sand between their toes and see how much fun beach volleyball can be,' said Cheng King-leung, executive secretary of the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China.

Wang and Tian won gold in the Asian Beach Volleyball Competition on Sunday. The duo said they would now take a one-month break from training and return to their home towns - their first 'holiday' since their success at the Asian Games.
