A woman was jailed for two years and nine months for cutting the foreskin of her boyfriend's penis with a pair of scissors after he said he wanted to leave her.

Chan Lai-ching, 47, was yesterday convicted of one count of wounding with intent despite a plea for leniency from her victim, Lai Kwok-fai.

Deputy District Court Judge Stephen Smout acknowledged that Mr Lai, 30, had been 'provocative' by telling Chan right after they had had sex that he wanted to break up their seven-year relationship.

Mr Lai had also told the court, through Chan's lawyer, he had forgiven her and that the offence had been out of character.

The deputy judge said he accepted that Mr Lai had forgiven Chan, but he pointed out that the victim had suffered severely and that he did not find Chan remorseful.

'She only regretted what she did after she came to know that she would be jailed,' he said.
