Plea for volunteers

In response to Mr Fullwood's letter 'Why not harness the talents of expats to boost English skills', I wish to seek your help in recruiting 40 native English-speaking volunteers for our English programmes for primary students in 2003.

In addition to our regular English programmes for new arrival children in YMCA of Hong Kong Cheung Sha Wan Centre, we will launch a campaign called 'Primary School Student English Ambassadors Project - Building Global Friendship'.

The campaign should help to build confidence and ability in using English among primary school students through a series of experiential training activities (games and sports), mentoring and a multi-media project competition on introducing Hong Kong to foreign visitors.

The campaign will be open to all primary schools in Hong Kong from next month until July. Twenty schools will be selected. Actual training and project learning will begin in January. Therefore we need 40 native English-speaking volunteers in all these meaningful events as mentors/coaches. For more information, contact Martin Lau at 2268 7096 or e-mail: martinlau@ymcahk.org.hk
