CRUISE FOR SINGAPORE IN TROPHY OPENER

Singapore began their 2002 Tuanku Ja'afar Cricket Trophy campaign on a winning note when they defeated Malaysia by six wickets in a match reduced to 35 overs at the Kowloon Cricket Club yesterday. Malaysia were dismissed for 181. Joshua Dearing made 43 and H.Dongre hit an unbeaten 59 as Singapore overhauled their target for the loss of four wickets in the 31st over. Defending champions Hong Kong, led by Rahul Sharma, will play their first match in the competition when they meet Singapore at the Hong Kong Cricket Club today. Thailand were the other team in the competition, but they pulled out due to a lack of funds.
