Lawmakers rejected a motion by non-affiliated Lui Ming-wah urging the government to study the latest desalination technology to prepare for the long-term drinking water needs of Hong Kong. The Secretary for Environment, Transport and Works, Sarah Liao Sau-tung, said the cost of desalination was still higher than buying water from Guangdong.
