Primed for women's hockey final

The 10th Women's Hockey World Cup wrapped up in Perth, Australia yesterday.

At the time of writing (Friday afternoon), this year's Champion's Trophy gold medallists, China, with a five-win, one-draw, one-loss record in the 16-team competition, were set to play group B winners Netherlands in the semi-finals.

China finished second in group A behind Argentina - the only team that beat them in the two-week competition.

In the other semi-final defending champions Australia, seeking their third consecutive title, were scheduled to clash with the undefeated Argentines.

The winners of the two semis' advanced to yesterday's final in the West Australian city.

The two semi-final losers played each other for third place yesterday morning.

Netherlands were three-time straight champions between 1983 and 1990 and contested the 1990 and 1998 finals with the Aussies.

The Netherlands beat Australia 3-1 in a group B match last week.
