The Port and Maritime Board yesterday confirmed the port was on course for record container throughput this year. The board projected, based on present rates, that the port would handle 18.6 million teu (20 ft equivalent units) this year, beating the record of 18.1 million set in 2000. Cargo volume for the first 11 months at Kwai Chung, the main terminals, reached 10.8 million teu, a year-on-year rise of 4.7 per cent.
