TOURISTS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM NOISY CONSTRUCTION ZONE

Last month it was revealed that the head of a Hong Kong travel agency had warned European tourists to stay away from Tsim Sha Tsui.

Samuel Wong Hai-sam of Jetway Travel acted in good faith, displaying true courtesy towards his customers. He was just being honest when he described to visitors what they would have to put up with if they stayed in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Any customers inconvenienced by staying in the area would become a bad ambassador for Hong Kong on returning to their home countries. The building in which I live in Carnarvon Road which has been spared demolition is located dangerously close to the construction zone classified for redevelopment.

At 7am I am literally shaken out of my bed and I and other residents in the building are forced out of our homes, because of the noise, until after 7pm. Our flats do not feel like genuine homes except on Sundays and public holidays when it becomes as peaceful as a church. On other days it is a nightmare.

If tourists stay outside this construction zone, the Tsim Sha Tsui hoteliers have nothing to fear because they will be compensated for their shortfall.

So why are they complaining? It is tenants like me who are really suffering and we will get no compensation.
