Children give dazzling entertainment at park

MORE than 500 children of different nationalities have been displaying their talents at Ocean Park recently in a month-long presentation of colourful performances to mark the opening of Kid's World, the park's newest attraction,.

The children, who come from 23 local and overseas groups, are guest performers at the FujiFilm International Children's Festival, which ends on Sunday.

Staging six shows daily at the Kids' World Theatre, the young performers offer guests a variety of entertaining programmes, including singing, dancing, instrument playing, puppetry, magic shows, mime, drama and paper cutting.

One of the groups is the internationally famous Nanjin Little Red Flower Art Ensemble from China.

Their most famous pieces, Catching the Kites and Joy of the Clay Dolls, is a vivid evocation of the joy of childhood, as well as a delightful vehicle for singing and dancing skills.

Also from China is the Fujian Youth Acrobatic Troupe, one of the most outstanding of all the Chinese acrobatic groups.

The little performers combine traditional Chinese acrobatics with modern styles in a thrilling display that includes unicycle, hang-rope and somersault specials.

From Europe come the Belgium Flagwavers and the Folk Dancers of Rattiviks from Sweden.

The former consists of 15 teenagers who wave colourful flags to the beat of drums, while the latter performs a series of folk dances in traditional costume.

David Poulton's Theatre of Puppets from Australia offers entertainment for young and adult audiences, with a wide spectrum of puppetry that includes the use of paper masks, marionettes, hand, rod, shadow and Bunraku techniques.

Besides the overseas groups, there are also spectacular and diversified performances from local groups such as the Hong Kong Yip's Children's Choir; Chung Ying Theatre Company; Mime Touch; Island Sun Drum; Indian Club/Indian Arts Circle; Jean Wong Schoolof Ballet; Alex Yu Magic Show Company; Drama by Oi Troupe; ADA Dance Group; Puppetainment Production Co Ltd, as well as marching bands from various schools and organisations.
