TVB's Selina Chow quits

Hongkong (Dec 27): Television Broadcasts Assistant General Manager, Mrs Selina Chow, has resigned from the station in a move which caught the industry by surprise last night.

Mrs Chow - who last week gave birth to her second daughter - has been with TVB since the channel introduced wireless television to Hongkong in 1967.

Industry sources speculated that Mrs Chow had accepted a position with the Chinese-only channel, Commercial Television.

Chaplin dead

London (Dec 30): Charlie Chaplin, who died on Christmas Day, left a fortune so involved that no one is saying just how big it is.

In London, where Chaplin was born in poverty 88 years ago, there is speculation that he left as much as US$100 million (about HK$500 million).

But the actual sum at this stage is pure guesswork since those responsible for his finances either cannot be reached or, when reached, decline to discuss the matter.

Even the existence of a will could not be confirmed.
