Hardly a case of being humbled

COULD the super-sub who set the headline on the sports page of your good newspaper on August 5, spare a thought for us peace-loving Glaswegians.

I refer of course to the misguided headline, ''Glasgow pair humbled by English sides''.

After spilling my coffee and fearing the worst, it was some light relief to see the margin of victory by namely Newcastle United (who last won something, I think when the old king died) and Man. United over Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic, was by the very slimmest of margins.

Despite the matches being played in a very friendly fashion, that did not stop members, particularly from that Tyneside cult situated just underneath Scotland, from making life less than heavenly for us cultural residents of Glasgow.

''Hawaythelads'' through the telephone earpiece was just the tip of the Geordie noise-making iceberg.
