TOP OFFICIALS STILL WELL OFF

Leading members of the government have taken a 10 per cent cut in salary.

However, is this really a 10 per cent cut, if you take into account all their perks, such as government housing and housing allowances, and, for example, cars and drivers?

I have no idea who gets what in terms of perks, but most senior officials will have government houses which normally would fetch rents which match their salaries.

Most people in Hong Kong do not get these perks and for them a 10 per cent cut is a real 10 per cent reduction.

If our leaders want to be genuine then they should add up the cost of their salary and perks and take a 10 per cent cut on that.

Then they can look the man in the street straight in the eye.
