I agree with James Tien Pei-chun that having English subtitles on programmes on TVB Pearl and ATV World would help raise English standards in Hong Kong.
However, why do we not go all the way and also provide English subtitles on the TVB Jade and ATV Home channels?
Such a move would help fluent English speakers to improve their Cantonese and Putonghua skills.
Hong Kong can only benefit from a population which is at ease with all three of the SAR's official languages.
