THE SHOW MUST GO ON

Your correspondent D. C. Spicknell (South China Morning Post, January 7) complained about ATV World Channel showing a horse racing programme on New Year's Eve.

We understand Mr Spicknell's frustrations and thank him for bringing this matter to our attention. As a leading television station in Hong Kong, we try our best to provide different programming choices to meet the diverse needs of our viewers.

However, we are not ignoring our viewer's interests on this issue. On the contrary, it shows our commitment to serve the interests of the community.

Under our agreement with the Hong Kong Jockey Club we are required to broadcast Racing to Win before race days. Therefore, we had to broadcast the programme that night.

We are sorry Mr Spicknell was not happy with this arrangement, but hope he will understand the situation.
