Crowd does a ewe turn
Alarmed readers reporting strange noises from the vicinity of the Tamar site in Admiralty on Saturday can rest easy - it was just 3,000 people pretending to be sheep.
Seems the Hong Kong Tourism Board - in an attempt to turn the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parade into an effort worthy of Asia's World City - hired a compere to liven up the audience. And the emcee's most successful trick was getting everyone to imitate lamb noises. Apparently everyone responded accordingly.
But since paraders included Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa and Secretary for Economic Development and Labour Stephen Ip Shu-kwan, we are not surprised. Indeed, many people would argue that a decent sheep impression is, these days, a prerequisite for any measure of success in local politics.
