Pakistan - key element in fight against terrorism

I refer to the agency report (Sunday Morning Post, February 9) which alleged that remnants of the erstwhile Taleban regime were receiving support from Pakistan's Directorate of InterServices Intelligence.

Pakistan is widely acknowledged to be one of the key elements in the international coalition against terrorism.

Its contribution in fighting the scourge of global terrorism, especially in the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, is second to none. It is only thanks to Pakistan's unwavering commitment to this cause that some of the key members of al-Qaeda are now under detention.

The domestic campaign within the country to clamp down on extremist organisations has been sustained with no less vigour or determination.
