New Zealand emerged as favourites for the Hong Kong Women's Sevens Open Championship title after winning all of their preliminary games against England, USA and Fiji at So Kon Po yesterday. Joining them in the Open Championship will be Kazakhstan, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Arabian Gulf. The Open Championship final will be played at Hong Kong Stadium tonight at 9.25pm as the last match on the opening night of the Hong Kong Sevens. New Zealand are the defending champions, having beaten the USA in last year's final.

The Asian Women's Championship is being decided amid the women's tournament and defending champions Kazakhstan confirmed themselves as strong candidates to retain their title after some impressive performances at So Kong Po. Kazakhstan notched up 176 points in Pool A, conceding only five against pool runners-up Thailand.

Kazakhstan will play Hong Kong, the winners of Pool B, after the SAR scored 139 points and conceded just 10 in their pool matches. Arabian Gulf were runners-up in Pool B. The Asian Championship final will be held at So Kon Po at 1:40pm today.
