Stones roll out a problem for tailor
The Rolling Stones' cancellation of their Hong Kong concerts left a Tsim Sha Tsui tailor with a $35,000 headache last week. Manu Melwani, known as Sam The Tailor, prepared five silk jackets at $7,000 each for band members who were expected to take delivery of them last Thursday, a day before their cancelled Convention and Exhibition Centre concerts. Mr Melwani flew the jackets to Singapore where they were given to the band. 'Fortunately they'd paid in advance,' he said.
Burglar leaves job half done
A burglar broke into an expatriate's home in Repulse Bay Road early yesterday, gathered up valuables in a bag and made off with just $500 cash - leaving the bag behind. Police were puzzled over the case, as they believe the burglar was not disturbed during the break-in. The tenant discovered the house ransacked and the bag of valuables in the kitchen when he returned home.

A government workshop next month will give advice on eliminating rats and mosquitos. The workshop, to be held on April 24 in Yau Ma Tei, has been organised by the Home Affairs Department. Bookings can be made on 2332 9113.
drug help expanded
The government's anti-drug abuse hotline has been upgraded to cater for English and Putonghua callers as well as Cantonese speakers, Commissioner for Narcotics Clarie Lo said. The hotline received nearly 27,000 calls last year. Its number is 2366 8822.
motorists warned
Police say traffic officers will crack down on motorists who stop inside box junctions from tomorrow. Offenders will be given fixed-penalty fines, a police spokesman said.
