The vice chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) last Friday and exchanged updates on the Sars epidemic.

Also visiting with the vice chancellor Professor Donald McQuade is Professor Arthur Reingold, division head of epidemiology and an expert on tuberculosis and infection control.

They met with the vice chancellor of CUHK and the dean of medicine over the latest Sars developments. Students who will attend the US institute's summer programmes also attended the meeting.

UC Berkeley has lifted an earlier ban barring students from Sars-affected areas from attending their summer programmes.
