A tablet PC to flip over

Carolyn Ong

Taiwanese personal computer maker Acer has become the first vendor to roll out a Centrino-based tablet PC, a 1.45kg unit with a small 10.4-inch display.

Tablet PCs accept two methods of data input - either by using an electromagnetic stylus, or with a keyboard.

The TravelMate C110 is equipped with an Intel Pentium M 900-megahertz chip, 256 megabytes of random access memory and a 30-gigabyte hard disk. It can be connected to an optical drive externally via USB.

Acer has adopted the convertible tablet PC design, which lets the user flip the display around and work on the screen as you would write on a notepad. The screen automatically shifts between landscape and portrait viewing when converting from notebook to tablet mode.

FranklinCovey software is pre-installed to give the tablet PC some organiser and schedule-management features.
