Eric Bana (Chopper) plays scientist Bruce Banner, whose life is turned upside-down when he's exposed to gamma radiation. Things get nasty as he gets increasingly angry. Ang Lee directs this adaptation of the Stan Lee comic. Jennifer Connelly and Nick Nolte co-star.

Michael Wilmington The Chicago Tribune 'Working from a script by his long-time collaborator, producer-writer James Schamus, A Lee takes S Lee's legend of the Hulk and tries to pack in as much angst and emotional torment as he does tricky CGI effects and slam-bang action. The movie, without sacrificing the usual roller-coaster thrills, digs deeper into the dark night of Hulk's soul than you would have thought possible. The movie, filled with shock cuts and multiple frames, looks and 'reads' like a comic book, and that includes the complex, stylised realisation of the Hulk himself.'

Ella Taylor LA Weekly 'Stan Lee's Hulk was a self-doubting chap overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the job ... One would expect the tenderhearted Ang Lee to go the same route. Instead, he shows a mischievous appreciation for the subversive pleasures of letting the id out to play. Hulk is a beautiful movie, but it's unlikely to win points as a monster flick - it's too elegant, too whimsical. Gigantic though he is, the Hulk is an endearing fellow.'

Peter Travers Rolling Stone 'Lee's technique is impeccable, but he's chasing more inner demons than one creature feature can handle. No wonder the audience cheers when TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno shows up for a cameo. It's a reminder of a time when it was easier being green.'

Peter Keough The Boston Phoenix 'Ang Lee has a good eye for the very small and the very big in Hulk, but not for the things, like plot and character, in between. Like the Hulk himself, the film swells beyond any recognisably human proportions into a huge, pretentious, CGI-rendered cartoon. Long before the Hulk has metamorphosed into a towering id-like titan battling what looks like a giant, anthropomorphic lava lamp, it's time for Lee to come to his senses and sensibility again.'
