Citizens of the relatively wealthy countries should do more to help those in other countries, where people die every day due to starvation and malnutrition.

Though organisations like World Vision and Oxfam regularly distribute donations to poverty-stricken people in India, China and African countries, I believe that a greater collective effort by those who are able can make our world better.

Robert Verburg's verbal nuances escape me ('Semantic feud', June 28). To me, whether one's freedoms are taken away with 'frankness' or with 'honesty' makes no difference.

Semantics aside, my point remains that in a democracy what the government takes away, the people may claim back. In Hong Kong, the people have no such power, hence the need for greater vigilance in defending our existing rights.

While pigs may not fly, they will certainly rule the farm - if we let them.
