Soccer fans who missed out on a seat for Friday's Real Madrid match will be able to watch it on a giant television screen in Mongkok Stadium for free.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has begun distributing forms for the 9,000 tickets at sports centres in 17 districts and at the Islands District Leisure Services Office.

They will also be available online starting today at www.lcsd.gov.hk. The deadline for submitting application forms is 11pm on Monday.

Results of a ballot for seats will be posted the next day at the same locations, and on the internet on Wednesday. Successful applicants will be notified by telephone.

'In order to allow more soccer enthusiasts to enjoy this spectacular event in a stadium-like atmosphere, we decided to open Mongkok Stadium,' an LCSD spokesman said.

The department has also arranged for about 10,000 fans to see Real Madrid train at Hong Kong Stadium the day before the match.

The audience will include members of the summer youth training schemes and welfare recipients, including Sars victims, street children, the disabled and the elderly.

Youth soccer trainees will get the tickets for the training session through a ballot, while clients from the Social Welfare Department will receive them through the department.
