Product: Nokia 3100 with Xpress-on Price: HK$1,800 to HK$2,000 Pros: You will never lose your phone in a power cutCons: Draws even more attention in the cinema

In years gone by, phone makers would wheel out their wackiest inventions only for the eyes of partners and trade show visitors. But ever since the fabled 'banana phone' of five years ago, Nokia has created a reputation for releasing some very odd mobile phones.

There was the 3300 and the NGage gaming phones, the 5510 with its dual keyboards, and the more recent 3650 with its retro but unappealing circular keypad.

Nokia's latest effort keeps up that tradition. It is a glow-in-the-dark phone that flashes when it rings. Just what you want to impress your dinner date or guarantee maximum attention in the cinema.

But it does have a practical purpose. The new Xpress-on gaming cover lights up in the dark so you can actually see your controls while playing games.

Most of the phone's other features are fairly standard for a Nokia - you get tri-band GSM with GPRS, picture and multimedia messaging, with space for up to 150 text messages.
