Where to ... go when you don't want to dine at your own restaurant
David Tang Wing-cheung is not only the man who brought us upmarket Chinese clothing store Shanghai Tang, he is also behind some of Hong Kong's most elegant restaurants, including Cipriani in Central. Below are five other restaurants Tang often visits.
Victoria City Seafood Restaurant, 1 Tim Mei Avenue, 5/F, Citic Tower, Admiralty, tel: 2877 2211. 'It is one of the best restaurants for Guangdong cuisine and other Chinese regional specialities. It is very well known.'
Tai Ping Koon Restaurant, 6 Pak Sha Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2576 9161. 'This restaurant serves an excellent selection of east-meets-west dishes. I especially enjoy the Swiss chicken wings, borsch soup and ox-tongue. But it is cold - the air-conditioning is so strong - I always have to take a jacket with me.'
Jimmy's Kitchen, South China Building, 1 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2526 5293. 'This is a British- and European-style restaurant. I like the curry and spaghetti. The staff are loyal and the food is traditional. I go there once a month.'
Da Domenico, 8 Hoi Ping Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2882 8013. 'I go to this fine Italian restaurant on Thursdays and Saturdays for the fresh seafood.'
Fook Lam Moon, 35 Johnston Road, Wan Chai, tel: 2866 0663 (pictured). 'This restaurant has been in Hong Kong for a few decades and is highly reputable. The dim sum is delicious. I particularly like the fried chicken and abalone.'
