We all know we live in the age of cloning, which may explain why the tabloid Eastweek, relaunched this week, is looking exactly like rival Next Magazine down to the fonts, colours and layouts.

How two rival publications looking exactly the same could benefit readers is something that escapes me, but Eastweek publisher Morris Ho Kwok-fai (left) said he had only the interest of the public in mind.

The irony is probably not lost on his one-time boss, Jimmy Lai Chee-ying (right), controlling shareholder of Next Media's Apple Daily and Next Magazine. Mr Ho, you see, was formerly Next Media's executive director.

In May, while expounding his management philosophy in a Next column, Mr Lai wrote that loyalty to bosses is overrated and employees should jump at any job opportunity.

'I am not a loyal person. I think loyalty clouds reason and the issues at hand,' he wrote. No doubt Mr Ho has taken his former boss' sage advice to heart.
