A decomposed human torso was found washed up on a rocky beach at Cho Wan, Lantau Island, yesterday.
A construction worker, surnamed Wo, 41, discovered the headless and limbless corpse while walking near the beach at about 4.30pm.
The torso is believed to have been cut off above the groin, making it difficult to identify its sex.
The body is believed to have been washed ashore rather than placed on the beach. Police cordoned off the beach as officers searched for more human remains that might have washed up separately.
Officers also searched the rocky and remote beach for other clues that might help investigator identify the body.
'Because of the torso's badly decomposed state we don't even know the deceased's sex or age at the moment,' a veteran police officer said.
