Big Brother meets White Dragon

Jackie Chan
Tinnie Chow

Last week, CitySeen told how Canadian film crew Aysha Productions was filming on the streets of Hong Kong as it told the tale of three martial arts hopefuls looking for fame and fortune in the movie world. Central to the story was teenager Bai Long, or 'White Dragon', from a kung fu school in Beijing. His whole reason for coming to HK was to meet his idol, Jackie Chan - hence the documentary's working title, Looking for Jackie Chan. But with less than two days before leaving Hong Kong, they had had no luck. CitySeen thus enlisted the help of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. With its efforts - and the support of some key film industry figures, such as director Teddy Chen Tak-sum, and writer/ producer Bey Logan - Jackie was located and he agreed to spare the Aysha crew some time in his busy schedule.

Just hours before the crew was about to depart, 15-year-old White Dragon got to meet his idol.

The documentary's director/ producer Sun-kyung Yi recalls: 'Bai Long was in complete shock; I think the whole experience was surreal to him. When he came face to face with the great JC, he stood there, completely frozen. I literally had to push his back to snap him out of it. After the meeting, he said, 'I thought I was going to faint'. I thought he was going to throw up, but he did well.'

Jackie furnished this young man with T-shirts and autographed photos, as a real hero should. So we are happy to report that Jackie fulfilled his duty as Hong Kong's 'Big Brother'.
