Police have arrested a man after they found him in bed with a child prostitute who said she started work yesterday on her 15th birthday.

The man, 42, was found with the girl in a police raid on a Shamshuipo guesthouse. The girl, a Primary 6 student at a Tai Kok Tsui school, had met the man at a cyber cafe in Jordan earlier in the day.

Shamshuipo police were last night taking the girl to hospital for an examination after having interviewed her and her father.

The girl told police she started work at the cyber cafe yesterday - her birthday.

Soon after starting, she met the customer and they allegedly arranged to have sex for $800.

The man, believed to be a white-collar worker at a Shamshuipo shipping company, went with the girl to the Fuk Wah Street guesthouse where he rented a room.

They were found when police arrived to check the guesthouse licence and pushed open an unlocked door, discovering the man and girl naked in bed.

Both the girl and the man were taken back to the police station for questioning. The teenager was to be confined to a girl's home today, but the man was detained overnight on suspicion of having sex with an underage girl. No charges had been laid last night.

So-called cyber cafes are often a front for brothels, with each establishment divided into small rooms for individual customers.
