With Jackie Chan (below) flogging Hong Kong on the world tourism market, filmmaker Zhang Yimou has been recruited to do likewise for Beijing. Two promotional clips made by Zhang - I am in Beijing and Beijing Celebrates National Day - are being broadcast on CNN. According to the central government, 'the clips reveal the history, culture and development of the city and marks the 850th anniversary of Beijing as China's capital - we have received positive response from foreign viewers'.

In France, Jackie will join Gong Li (middle) as an honorary patron of the nine-month festival 'Annee de la Chine', which honours Chinese history, art and pop culture throughout France. There will be a Chinese New Year parade down the Champs-Elysees on January 21, while Zhang Yimou (bottom) is also participating. He is staging a ballet based on his movie Raise the Red Lantern that will be presented by the National Ballet of China at the Theatre du Chatelet from November 21 to 25.
