A sports summit will be held in Hong Kong within the next two months to enhance co-operation in sports development in the Pearl River Delta region.

Speaking from Hunan yesterday, Secretary for Home Affairs Patrick Ho Chi-ping  said he had discussed future co-operation with officials from the delta region, including Guangdong and Macau.

'Competitiveness can  only be achieved by establishing an alliance of cities,' he said.

Such an alliance would  enhance  relationships among athletes.

Dr Ho was in Hunan attending the opening ceremony of the Fifth Inter-City Games, taking place in Changsha city.
