If the shoe fits

Puerto Rican shoe designer Edmundo Castillo made a special appearance at On Pedder in Central, thrilling Hong Kong's shoe conscious.

Autumn means it's time for an upgrade in the shoe department. What perfect timing, to do that under the expertise of the shoe designer himself? The store made a point of putting the Castillo heels on parade that night, and models wore a collection of plain clothes to show off the designer's eccentric collection. Models casually sauntered around the brightly lit store, with the little pieces of art strapped on to their feet, to the delight of onlookers with a shoe fetish. Models Lisa S and Amanda Strang immediately took a liking to the not so flamboyant Castillo, who was chatting away with each and every guest it seemed, clearly interested in learning more about Hong Kong. It was obviously his first visit.

Among the shoe lovers attending were fashion designer Lucy Shih and Jacqueline Ng from Loewe, while Christian Dior's Della Kwok came to shop and experiment. Walter Hau and Gordon Cumings also joined the festivities and chatted with the designer about all things but shoes.

Yvette Yuen came to the cocktail and refused to try on pairs in front of the press (she was wearing a dress), so she took armloads next door to Sergio Rossi to try them on in private. After the show, Reina Chau and Mirah Yeh insisted they take Castillo to Kee Club for dinner, and in the end he managed to beat them to the bill, which obviously caused a bit of an embarrassing scene - but Barney Cheng and Hau came to the rescue and dragged him out to see some of Hong Kong's nightlife.
