Jiupu seeks backing
A DISTRICT of Anshan, Liaoning province, is seeking foreign backing for about 90 projects as it goes for economic growth.
Wang Huabin, secretary of Jiupu district, said it was holding a trade fair in Hong Kong to promote trade and co-operation with foreign companies.
He hoped that foreign investors would be interested in the range of industrial, agricultural, property, tourism, infrastructure and other projects being marketed.
Mr Wang said a US company was in discussions over a steel-rolling and production joint venture, while investors from Taiwan and South Korea were looking at industrial projects.
One of the biggest projects planned would involve the US$1 billion of hi-tech industry and property in the Ningyuan special economic zone.
Jiupu is also seeking backing for a $15 million steel production venture, a $10 million hotel project and a $10 million hot-water springs development.
More than 15 foreign-funded enterprises have been set up in Jiupu, investing about $24 million.
The district has more than 2,100 state-owned industrial enterprises.
