Happy Valley youngster Sham Kwok-keung was surprisingly included in the Hong Kong squad for Wednesday's friendly with the Japan Olympic team and next month's Asian Cup qualifying matches in Uzbekistan and Thailand, writes Tim Maitland. The 18-year-old has been promoted directly into the senior squad, despite not being involved in the Under-23 team's matches against South Korea this month and missing Hong Kong's Asian Youth Under-20 Championship qualifying matches in China through injury.

'He's a good young talent and he has the potential to get into the national team one day and do a good job,' said Hong Kong coach Lai Sun-cheung. 'He's proved his ability with Happy Valley and there are not that many left-sided midfielders in Hong Kong to choose from.'

Lai has also chosen to gamble on the fitness of South China striker Au Wai-lun, despite the 32-year-old having made only two substitute appearances since breaking a bone in his ankle against Real Madrid. There was also a recall after a long absence for Happy Valley defender Lai Kai-cheuk.

Goalkeepers: Chung Ho-yin (32, South China), Fan Chun-yip (27, Happy Valley), Goldbert Chi-chiu (age 22, Rangers).
